UPE 06 Reacts: An Incomprehensible and Counterproductive Measure
Yvon Grosso, President of UPE 06, which federates MEDEF 06 and CGPME 06, is keen to strongly denounce the government initiative that aims to impose a 2% tax on hotel stays in 4-star and higher hotels and joins with all tourism professionals on the Côte d’Azur who are outraged by this unjust measure.
“We are aware of the effort that each party must make to bridge the budget deficit. However, once again, it is the businesses that are being called upon to contribute. It is time for the Government to take drastic measures to reduce its own expenses, rather than multiplying taxes on businesses, which are as many hindrances to their development, and consequently, to the creation of wealth.
This tax will penalize one of the key sectors of the Azur economy, with consequences on employment, and consequently the competitiveness of the offering against fierce international competition. Moreover, this measure goes completely against all the efforts made over the past two years to enhance the French hotel reputation, with the creation of the 5th star.
It is more than disconcerting to see the Government under pressure from some change course, renounce a tax that it likely considered justified, and compensate for this ‘loss of revenue’ with another tax, without any consideration for the economic consequences of this measure on the sector concerned.
I call upon the elected representatives of this department to bring the voice of the business into this debate and make them renounce this measure which will seriously compromise the balance of some of our companies. I add that to avoid any further cacophony, it would be wise for the State to consult businesses on decisions that entail the economic future of France,” declares Yvon Grosso, President of UPE 06.
