August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption, which for believers warms the heart.
It is also the day of the publication of the Shanghai Ranking, one of the globally recognized higher education rankings – like Times Higher Education (THE) or QS-World University Ranking – which includes the top 1000 universities.
As usual, American universities have dominated, with eight of them in the top ten (Harvard 1st, Stanford 3rd), while the “noble” Oxford (2nd) and Cambridge complete the picture.
Newly established in 2019, succeeding the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, the University of Côte d’Azur, which brings together various affiliated institutions, is ranked in the 301-400 global range and 13-16 nationally.
The new formula, which can be defined as a “center of knowledge” (multi-disciplinary education, research center), has given new momentum to the Nice institution, considering that in 2019, UNS ranked in the 801-900 range globally and 13-16 nationally.
There is no doubt that, while much progress remains to be made to reach excellence, the path taken is the right one.
Even if the competition is fierce!
The top 100 of the world’s best universities now includes five French institutions, which is three more than in 2019. Paris-Saclay is fourteenth.
The Minister of Higher Education celebrated this in a statement: France in 3rd position in the Top 20 of the ShanghaiRanking.
A beautiful international recognition for the new university models that we have encouraged. They demonstrate the quality of the teams in the service of our higher education and research.”
