After a lackluster start to the year and a defeat in the National 2 championship, Cavigal is leading its group this season and has set new goals.
The beginning of 2023 followed the same trajectory as the end of 2022. The team from Nice was stuck in the middle of the table in group 6. They finished an honorable 5th place in the group with a final home defeat against Saint-Raphaël. This summer, the objectives were raised, with a clear mission: to secure first place in the group this season. To achieve this, the president went all out, recruiting several strong players to strengthen the team. The club also decided to trust the young talents from their ranks. Several U18 players were promoted to the National 2 coach’s team. After a thorough preparation this summer and several friendly matches, it was time to focus on the championship.
A Very Promising Start to the Season
The start of the second part of the year began in a very promising manner. A home victory in front of their fans kicked off the season. But as Gérald Jean-Zéphirin noted, “The championship is going to be long, and the away match against the direct competitor Marseille is already very important.” The message was clear, as his men triumphed in Provence and have already claimed the top spot in the group.
After three victories in the first three games, the team from Nice suffered their first defeat of the season once again against Saint-Raphaël. The Var team is somewhat of a nemesis for Cavigal this season in the championship. Cavigal lost the top spot in the group, but not for long. The shock of the defeat worked, and the red and black team resumed their forward march. They concluded this 2023 exercise with an away victory against Prades-Le-Lez.
A More Than Honorable Record
They are currently at the top of their group with 31 points, three points ahead of GUILHERAND. With a record of 9 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses in 12 games this season, Cavigal is well-positioned to fulfill the hopes placed in this group.
