39th edition of the MANCA festival: PRIMA LA MUSICA!

Latest News

In this year 2018, we are celebrating 70 years of jazz. The program was unveiled to us by François Paris, whose opera: The Jekyll Case will be presented in the Jedrinsky Hall at the Diascomie on Friday, December 7 at 8 PM. The MANCA festival takes place from December 2 to December 9. The concert venues vary across the city: the Opera, the Entrepont at the old slaughterhouses, the Nice Conservatory, the Palais Lascaris, the Villa Arson, the Marc Chagall National Museum, and the Diascomie.

Creating a program must balance several factors: genres and people. The dispute between text and music (opera) is the essence of this 39th edition. The MANCA festival also aims to harmonize art and science, to respond to technology, and to extend the gesture of the musician, the conductor. Creating an osmosis between sound and voice, mastering acoustics. Six concerts, an Opera, world premieres, twenty-five composers of eleven nationalities.

The MANCA takes an international dimension. The Nice Conservatory, along with its students, will offer a free concert on Wednesday, December 5. On Saturday, December 8, the arts & sciences day will take place at the Villa Arson with various free shows.

All good things must come to an end, on December 9 the curtain will fall at the Marc Chagall Museum with a vocal ensemble, featuring female solo voices. Prima la Musica is the theme of this edition. Always and above all, ancient and contemporary music.

If the MANCA is the music of today, the music of yesterday and even the day before yesterday with the viola d’amore at the Palais Lascaris is a tribute to the past. The setting of this ancient patrician house lends itself admirably to this instrument, and one will be surprised by its modernity with acoustic music.
