Last weekend, a land and underwater clean-up operation was held at Rauba Capeu, organized by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Tourism Office. Forty-two volunteers, along with the city and metropolitan services, participated in this collective effort in favor of the coastline.

The operation is part of the “Year of the Sea” initiative, in connection with the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference. At Rauba Capeu, on April 5th, the participants collected approximately 550 kilograms of waste. Among these, 440 kilograms were removed from the sea.

On the beach and in the water, 42 volunteers responded to the call, alongside municipal and metropolitan services.

This operation was followed by a categorization of the waste. It aims to better understand the nature of the waste found along the Nice coastline. For the OTM NCA, this initiative demonstrates a clear intention: to make tourism a sustainable lever, compatible with environmental preservation.

“Tourism is a wealth for our territory, but it also has an impact on the environment”, highlights the Tourism Office. The challenge is significant: to combine tourist appeal with ecological responsibility.

Richard Chemla, Pierre-Paul Leonelli, Rudy Salles, and Jean-Sébastien Martinez were present. They praised a mobilization marked by solidarity.

This action is not isolated. It is part of a broader strategy. The OTM NCA asserts its commitment to act across all its sectors to support the transition towards sustainable tourism.

A support fund has also been launched. It will support associations carrying out projects in favor of tourism that respects people, the environment, and the local economy.
