Thursday 22nd September from 6:30 PM, the fifth Gallery Night will take place in Nice. An event that targets company executives, local stakeholders, and art enthusiasts who wish to explore contemporary art in a friendly and festive atmosphere. It aims to foster dialogue between this audience and the artists, through exhibitions featuring artists of various sensibilities: painting, sculpture, photography…
“Our vision of the event is the exact opposite of an elitist approach,” explains Brother Benoît Pekle, co-organizer of the event. “Gallery Night is open to everyone, we emphasize the event’s convivial aspect.” Importantly, this large nocturnal gathering dedicated to art is entirely organized by associations and volunteers, such as the Junior Economic Chamber, a partner in the event. “We hope that this event will one day become a national event, and that more substantial partners will join us in this adventure,” confides Bruno Pourcines, president of the JCE.
For this fifth edition, fourteen galleries are featured. Starting at 6:30 PM, two small trains will be available to participants, to travel from gallery to gallery (meeting point at Place Masséna). In 2004, 3,000 people attended the event. This year, organizers expect at least as many attendees, a sign that the event is gaining momentum. Afterwards, after the galleries close at 10:30 PM, a major art party will be organized in the parking lot of the Promenade des Arts, where artists, enthusiasts, and organizers will mingle.
“An event that brings people who aren’t used to visiting galleries, it’s an appealing and nice initiative,” exclaims Olivier Bettati, General Councillor of the Alpes-Maritimes. “And it’s important to emphasize that in Nice, voluntarily, there are also people who want to make things happen.”
