“Jean-Pascal, the comedian who could neither sing nor dance at Star Academy I, is acting in a TV film? No.” You don’t believe me, why? Because we’re used to seeing him act the fool, (as he says), or play the clown? But Jean-Pascal is more than that! And to prove it, watch the new TF1 telefilm “Section de Recherche,” where Mr. Lacoste, often labeled a complainer, marvelously portrays a role nearly tailored for him. A comedian is born!
With his appearance of a spirited dog, Jean-Pascal Lacoste, as classy as he is genuine, amused himself by answering our interview between two spoonfuls of something too complicated to eat. “But why don’t they make simple things here? Fried potatoes and a piece of meat!” he said. Just like home! That’s Jean-Pascal: spontaneity and sincerity. And because Jean-Pascal is cool and because it feels like we’ve known him forever, using informal speech comes naturally.
Nice-Première: Jean-Pascal, you have been co-hosting the show “Incroyable mais vrai” for some time now.
Jean-Pascal Lacoste: Indeed, we present incredible phenomena accompanied by astonishing footage with Roger Pierre, Bruno Roblès, and Sophie Favier. For instance: a baby falls from the eighth floor and is unharmed. It’s important to remember that all these footages that show people in quite bizarre situations are real and that each person comes out unscathed. They are incredible people but very real. This year, we are starting the fourth season. The shows are broadcast every Thursday.
N-P: What role do you have in this show?
J.-P.L.: I’m kind of there, in quotes, to say what everyone is secretly thinking. That has always been my role (Smile). Bruno drives us. I handle the “Internet” segment and the “absolutely stupid” topics. I play the fool a bit (Smile). It’s a show where we relax, it’s all fun. It’s very pleasant.
N-P: And singing, have you given it up?
J.-P.L.: No, but I sold too much (Laughter). I’m competing with other artists, it bothers them, so I stopped (Smile). But what can I say? I sold too much (Smile). No, I might make another hit, just to annoy them, just to bother them because they are mocking me (Laugh).
On the other hand, the profession of actor attracts you since you are playing in a new TV film titled “Section de Recherche” in which you play the role of Investigator Luc. Can you describe your character?
J.-P.L.: Luc is a specialist in computer science, electronics, and telephony. He’s knowledgeable in that. He’s addicted to the Internet.
N-P: And you?
J.-P.L.: Me too, I love computers. I work on Mac, people don’t like it, apparently. I do video editing. I love it. On the Internet, I love to search, watch through webcam. I visit countries, the United States… I’m not much into chat, or I don’t go on dating sites. For me, the Internet is a great research tool, Luc is somewhat like me in this regard.
N-P: Do you have a website?
J.-P.L.: No, lots of people have one, but I don’t.
