Melody Gardot: the new thrill of jazz at the Nice Jazz Festival

Latest News

For the lovely Melody, everything began in the bars of Philadelphia where she sang at 16 to earn some money. Her voice is a musical instrument in its own right, although she learned piano at a young age. Seriously injured at the age of 19, this child from New Jersey found in music the remedy for her emotional and physical scars. During her convalescence, she composed her first 6-track album, released in 2005, with a guitar and a tape recorder. From this painful period, she retained a cane and dark glasses. With her natural blonde elegance, she managed to turn these into charming assets for performing her songs.

“My one and only thrill”

“My one and only thrill” softly evokes the emotions of desire, regret, and romantic exaltation, without becoming cloying. In Melody Gardot’s approach, there is no desire for vocal performance but rather a sincere wish to give this new album a tone of confidence, full of discretion and restraint. Thanks to Miss Gardot, vocal jazz is no longer just the preserve of a few insiders.
This 24-year-old artist, with her talent, has made her art popular. Many will compare her to Norah Jones [similar musical style], a comparison she can easily live up to. But this young woman with a predestined first name deserves attention for her new album “My one and only thrill”, which will surely be your one and only thrill, transporting you to the tender roots of jazz.

Be sure to quickly hear Melody Gardot at the Arènes de Cimiez during the Nice Jazz Festival on July 24th or, if you immediately fall in love, meet her at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 17th!

In the meantime, listen to the snippet of “Who will comfort me”.
