Nice will host the seventh Francophonie Games from September 6 to 15, 2013. The National Committee, chaired by Christian Estrosi, is setting up in the Azure capital, at Villa-Masséna. During an early afternoon press conference, the deputy mayor of Nice did not hide a certain excitement.

After Beirut (Lebanon), Nice will host the seventh edition of the Francophonie Games next year.

In the early afternoon, the president of the national competition committee, Christian Estrosi, held a press conference at the headquarters of the CNJF, at Villa-Masséna.

A passionate sports enthusiast, the deputy mayor of Nice was very enthusiastic: “The Francophonie Games in Nice are the Games of France. Former President of the Republic [editor’s note: Nicolas Sarkozy] and I said we had to go all the way on this project (sic)”.

The Games following the 100th Tour de France

The president of the CNJF is ambitious. In 2013, the city of Nice will experience a turning point in its cultural existence by hosting the 100th edition of the Tour de France during a time trial.

“Two months later, we will host the Games. They must be the Games of equal opportunities. We will ensure that the French, the people of Nice, and the people of the Côte d’Azur embrace this competition.”, said Christian Estrosi.

During this press conference, the former Minister of Overseas Affairs debunked some misconceptions: “Francophonie is not just Overseas France. It is the France of the 5 continents. It represents 200 million French speakers worldwide, 96 million in Africa”.

Before concluding: “A major countdown will be launched next September 5, at D – 1 year”. Get your clocks ready!
