Created in 1936, the ski resort is preparing to celebrate its 80th anniversary at the end of the week. It’s an opportunity to retrace the history of a winter sports resort that has managed to evolve.
Valberg is essentially the shepherds’ valley. Opened in 1936, the resort initially had only one ski lift.
The “white gold” craze is in full swing. Valberg is decidedly “the place to be”.
Until 1959, Valberg had only 5 slopes, and it would take the arrival of the advertiser Jean Mineur, who loved the south of France.
He managed to persuade developers to invest in Valberg; and it was a teacher turned mayor, then president of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, Charles Ginésy, who definitively established the reputation of a resort that now boasts 56 slopes across 90 kilometers.
