The Republic of Nissa and the Federal Occitan Republic will pay tribute to the men and women who participated in the Liberation of Nissa from Nazi occupation on August 28, 1944, 71 years ago.
The president of the Republic of Nissa, Cristòu Daurore, and the president of the Federal Occitan Republic, Ciril Joanin, invite everyone to observe a minute of silence in their honor this Friday, August 28, at 12 p.m.
According to him: “We believe it is important to keep in our collective memory those who had the courage to take action themselves, without waiting for the allied army. 32 of them lost their lives that day, and more than 280 were injured. To these victims, we must add the allied bombings of 05/26/44, the hangings of Torin and Grassi on 07/07, and the shootings at Ariane on 07/22 and 08/15.”
The Federal Occitan Republic is also joining in this tribute to Nissa. Their representatives traveled to Tulle on July 31, 2014, to honor the 99 victims hanged by the Nazis. On August 1, 2014, the mayor of Oradour-sur-Glane (represented by city councilor Mr. Michel Pailler, photo attached) expressed the wish to join our tribute in Limousin to the 642 victims of the Nazis. Finally, on August 17, 2014, in Toulon, a tribute was paid to the landing of the allied troops.
