Launched by the Alpes Maritimes department, the free game application Park Explorers, available on smartphones, will allow users to discover the natural, scenic, geological, and historical heritage of the department’s parks. While the Vaugrenier Nature Park is currently the only one accessible in the app, it will soon be joined by seven other parks. The Grande Corniche Park will be accessible at the beginning of 2022, the Esterel and Vinaigrier parks will follow in 2022, and in 2023, the Valmasque, Cros de Casté, Rives du Loup, and Pointe de l’Aiguille parks will be added.

For the department president, “‘Park Explorers’ alone embodies the ambitions of the Alpes-Maritimes Department within the frameworks of the two major policies of the SMART Deal and the GREEN Deal: to preserve the exceptional environment our territory offers and provide, through digital means, better service to users.”

A game in the form of challenges
The game involves the player taking on 10 challenges. For example, they could learn to identify the cork oak using artificial intelligence or discover the lifestyle of certain animals in augmented reality. If they win, they earn collectible cards.

The game aims to raise players’ awareness of environmental issues while providing them with a greater understanding of the parks and their flora and fauna. The app will be regularly updated with new routes to encourage users to revisit the parks.

A game for the whole family
The application has been designed to appeal to everyone. Thus, children as young as eight can use it when supervised by adults. The game is also suitable for families, teachers, or associations looking to create educational activities around the discovery and protection of our natural parks.

The application is available and can be downloaded now on the App Store and Google Play.
