The 2025 population census begins in Nice on January 16. Nearly 19,000 homes are involved this year. Residents will receive an information letter to notify them of their participation.
Every year, 8% of the homes in cities with more than 10,000 inhabitants are surveyed. In Nice, this campaign aims to collect useful data for municipal management. Census agents distribute the questionnaires starting from January 16. They visit residents’ homes, equipped with their official tricolor card.
Residents have two options to respond: online, on the site www.le-recensement-et-moi.fr, or via a paper form. In the latter case, agents deliver a housing form and individual sheets, which they later collect once completed.
Participation is mandatory. It ensures the quality of the results, which are strictly confidential and used solely for statistical purposes.
What is the purpose of this data?
The census allows us to determine the official population of the municipality. These figures directly influence the state’s financial allocation, the number of elected officials in the city council, and urban planning projects. The collected data also help better meet the residents’ needs: daycare centers, housing, transportation, shops, etc.
According to INSEE, Nice had 356,603 residents in 2022, an increase of 5,600 inhabitants in one year. The results of the 2025 census will be integrated into the official figures released in December. Detailed statistics will be available in July on the INSEE website.
