The port of Nice will host a convention center to replace the Acropolis. It will be ready in June 2025 for the Ocean Summit. Its funding will be largely provided by the UN and the French government.
Construction began on January 6, 2025, at the port of Nice, on the Infernet quay. A temporary structure will be built to host the United Nations conference on oceans in June 2025.
The construction of the new convention center at the port of Nice is progressing at a steady pace. Scheduled to be delivered by April 30, 2025, this semi-temporary complex is on track to be completed on time. Comprising three buildings, the convention center covers 6,400 square meters. It includes a main hall of 3,500 square meters capable of accommodating up to 2,500 people. The two other annex buildings, one of which has a rooftop terrace with a stunning view of the port and the Mediterranean, will be used for meetings, receptions, and a maritime station.
An Innovative Construction Site
The project is being carried out by the Lyon-based company GL Events. This event specialist company uses prefabricated elements assembled on site. This method allows for meeting an ambitious schedule and minimizing environmental impact. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the work. He did not hesitate to highlight the importance of this project for the city’s attractiveness.
The future convention center, nicknamed “Pavilion of the Sea”, is set to remain in place for three years. An extension up to six or seven years could be considered in connection with the 2030 Winter Olympics. After the conference, the site will be used to host congresses, shows, and seminars, thereby contributing to the economic and cultural dynamism of Nice.
