To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its États Généraux, the Alpes-Maritimes Committee of the League Against Cancer, in collaboration with Nice-Matin, is organizing a conference on September 20 in Nice.
25 years earlier, Bernard Kouchner, then Minister of Health, declared: “From this day on, nothing will ever be the same“. At the same time, the National League Against Cancer marked a decisive turning point in health democracy by organizing the first États Généraux for cancer patients. This innovative event enabled an unprecedented dialogue between caregivers and patients.
These États Généraux not only gave patients a voice but also led to the adoption of major political measures. Among them were the law of March 4, 2002, on patients’ rights, the launch of the first Cancer Plan, and the creation of the National Cancer Institute. 25 years later, this event gave rise to three successive cancer plans and a decade-long strategy to fight the disease.
Voices, ACTIONS…
To celebrate this anniversary, the Alpes-Maritimes Committee of the League Against Cancer, in partnership with Nice-Matin, is organizing a conference entitled “Voices, ACTIONS…” on September 20 at the Mediterranean University Center in Nice. This conference aims to give a voice back to people with the disease and their caregivers and highlights the importance of listening and engagement in the fight against cancer.
The day will include several round-table discussions addressing essential themes. Discussions will focus on the diagnosis announcement procedure, supportive care, and inequalities in access to healthcare across the territory. Other discussions will concentrate on the role of artificial intelligence in health and the engagement of parliamentarians in the fight against cancer. These round tables will be led by health professionals and experts, providing a rich space for dialogue on these crucial topics.
