The South Korean tenor stood out during the first edition of the French Riviera Masters. A lyrical singing competition held at the Nice Opera House.
The finale of the French Riviera Masters took place this Saturday, November 16, 2024, after four days of competitions. This contest, inspired by the Monte-Carlo Music Masters, brought together eight candidates from several countries, including France, South Korea, and Poland. The participants sang in front of a jury composed of professionals from the lyrical field, in the prestigious setting of the Nice Opera House.
Organized by the association “Résonances Lyriques” and directed by Marie-Automne Peyregne, this event marks a new initiative to promote lyrical singing on the French Riviera.
Jihoon Park, a recognized voice
The South Korean tenor Jihoon Park, 33 years old, won this first edition against the Polish-American soprano Magdalena Kuźma. Born in Seoul, he studied at the Korea National University of Arts, where he earned a master’s degree under Professor Sangho Choi.
Jihoon Park is a recognized tenor in the field. In 2020, he won two competitions in Korea. In 2022, he won the Korea Classical Singers International Competition and the Daegu International Music Competition. He also won the Grand Prix of the JW Competitions. More recently, in 2023, he finished second at the Mont Fuji Shizoka Opera Competition.
On stage, Jihoon Park has performed various roles, such as Tito in La clemenza di Tito, Rodolfo in La Bohème, and the Duke in Rigoletto. He has also sung as a soloist in works like Handel’s Messiah or Mozart’s Requiem, touring in several South Korean cities. Thanks to this award, Jihoon Park will perform on stages in France and internationally.
Also noteworthy is the impressive performance of Juliette Tacchino. The candidate from Nice was among the five semi-finalists, showcasing the quality of young talents in France.
