The Institute of Physics of Nice (INPHYNI), a partnership between Université Côte d’Azur and CNRS, inaugurated its new building this Tuesday. This laboratory, renowned for its scientific advancements, comprises 171 staff members including researchers, doctoral candidates, and technicians.
INPHYNI focuses its activities around three main areas: waves and quantum physics, photonics, and nonlinear physics. Each year, over 100 publications and presentations at conferences attest to the impact of its work. These researches are enriched by international collaborations and industrial partnerships. The institute’s director, Guillaume Huyet, emphasizes: “This new building reflects our ambition: to provide a work environment suited to current and future scientific challenges, while fostering exchanges and collaborations.”
The researchers at INPHYNI explore varied subjects. Among them is the use of the quantum properties of light to improve the precision of astronomical measurements and secure telecommunications. The teams are also working on nanotechnologies that aim to optimize the circulation of medications in the bloodstream as well as solutions to facilitate waste recycling.
A Local and International Impact
The excellence of the research is recognized by numerous distinctions. The Université Côte d’Azur ranks among the top 200 institutions in physics according to the Shanghai Ranking. Simultaneously, industrial collaborations enhance the practical applications of the work, with five ongoing projects and several start-ups originating from the laboratory.
Guillaume Huyet concludes: “INPHYNI is a place where fundamental research meets practical applications. This new setting provides the means to meet society’s needs and to better understand the world around us.”
This inauguration marks an important step in the scientific development of the Nice region. With varied research themes and large-scale projects, the Institute of Physics of Nice confirms its major role in international research.
