In the Var plain, an urban park project is taking shape. The first part will be open to the public in the spring of 2025. This new green space is part of a vast redevelopment program to the west of Nice.
The Var plain, located between the Charles Ehrmann stadium and the Var agricultural zone, is hosting an ambitious project. A “large landscaped park” is under construction. This future green lung will eventually cover 30 hectares, or three times the size of the Paillon promenade.
Starting in spring 2025, an initial portion of 5.5 hectares will be accessible. This area will be situated in the north, near the Traverse des Baraques and opposite the equestrian center. The park will be served by the tram.

The goal is clear: to reintroduce nature into the heart of this area, marked by paved grounds and industrial activities. Eventually, 60% of the soil will be de-sealed. For the Mayor of Nice, this project symbolizes a true urban forest. Last November, Christian Estrosi planted the first tree. In total, 467 trees, 200 saplings, and 15,000 forest plants will green the site.
A multifunctional and evolving space
The future park will be designed to fully integrate into the developing district of Méridia. It will offer walking areas, sports activities, and relaxation spaces. A portion will be dedicated to agriculture, in connection with a municipal horticultural production center.
The overall project will span until 2030. The work will progress in stages, depending on the availability of land. The involved parties – the City of Nice, the Metropolis, and EPA Nice Écovallée – have invested 8.9 million euros in this first phase.
This landscaped park is also a response to the growing demand for green spaces in urban areas. Its development will boost the west of Nice while providing a peaceful living environment. Residents will have to wait a bit longer to fully enjoy this new place. But next spring, the first segment of this major project will become a reality.
