The film Words from Researchers, produced by the ARC Foundation, highlights the work of Corine Bertolotto. This Nice-based researcher is a specialist in melanocytes and melanoma at the Mediterranean Center for Molecular Medicine in Nice.
Since December 1, the film Words from Researchers gives voice to those who work behind the scenes to advance science. Broadcast in cinemas, on television, and online, this film showcases Corine Bertolotto, a research director at Inserm at the Mediterranean Center for Molecular Medicine in Nice.
Corine Bertolotto leads the “Biology and Pathologies of Melanocytes” team. Her work focuses on melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation, and their transformation into melanoma, an aggressive form of cancer.
Her aim is to understand the biological mechanisms that govern these cells. How do they protect the skin from solar rays, and why do they sometimes become resistant to treatments? This research aims to identify new therapeutic targets to improve care.
In the film, she discusses the essential role of research in medical progress. According to her, “without laboratory discoveries, no new treatment could emerge.”
