A week of free diabetes screening in Nice

8

The city of Nice is organizing, until November 22, 2024, a week dedicated to the prevention and screening of type 2 diabetes. This initiative, supported by several local partners, aims to raise awareness and support the most at-risk populations.

In France, one in seven people is believed to have type 2 diabetes without knowing it. In Nice, the situation is concerning. Nearly 30% of inhabitants over the age of 60 are diabetic or at risk, with a 5% annual increase in cases over the past decade. In 2022, 1,062 new diagnoses were recorded.

In response to this situation, the city is offering a free screening and information program. Participants will be able to have their blood sugar and blood pressure measured at several sites throughout the city. If any troubling results are found, personalized follow-up care will be offered.

Concrete actions for everyone

Besides the screenings, advice on dietary balance and fitness assessments will be available at the vaccination center on rue Hancy on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 20. Adapted physical activity sessions, supervised by professionals, are also planned throughout the week. These will be held as part of the Nice en forme program.
