In the second quarter, the French economy created 91,700 jobs, an increase of 0.5% compared to the previous quarter. Over the year, the private sector created 291,900 positions.

Month after month, good news keeps coming in on the job market, despite unemployment figures fluctuating.

According to the figures published this Friday by INSEE, indeed, salaried employment increased again in the second quarter: some 91,700 jobs were created during this period, according to INSEE, after 57,700 during the previous three months, as the first-quarter figures were significantly revised downward. The increase reaches 0.5% after 0.4% in the first three months of the year.

Over the year, the French economy created 291,900 jobs, a 1.5% increase. In total, the private sector now has 19.2 million positions, the majority of which (11.9 million) are in the market services.

In detail, private employment progresses at the same rate as in the first quarter in agriculture (+0.3%), is stable in the industry, and continues to increase in construction (+0.4%).

On the other hand, non-market private employment grows by 0.2% over the quarter (thus 6,100 positions), at the same pace as the previous quarter.

Over the year, the increase reaches 0.8% (21,100 jobs).

Another piece of good news is that temporary employment is recovering. It “notably rebounds in the second quarter,” explains INSEE. In fact, with 27,700 positions created, it grows by 4.1% after a first quarter that had experienced a very slight decline (-0.8%).

Over the year, it is sharply up with an increase of 17.6%, which corresponds to the creation of 106,000 positions.
