Acting for Elephants: An Environmental Emergency

Latest News

Until September 2, the Maison de l’Environnement is hosting photos from the collection “Save the Elephants of Africa.” Created by the association of the same name and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the exhibition denounces the poaching of elephants in Kenya.

Because of humans, elephants are at risk of extinction. Poaching for ivory leaves many elephant calves orphaned each year. The SEA and DSWT associations rescue these animals, care for them, and fund actions to protect them.

Through their photographs, these associations explain and promote their actions. DSWT has already rescued 200 elephants, and more than a hundred of them have now been reintegrated into their natural environment.

Nice and Africa

The Maison de l’Environnement, in partnership with the city of Nice, organizes several projects in primary schools: the School of the World. Children are made aware of sustainable development and the environment. In this context, between 5 and 6 classes are introduced each year to Africa’s issues, including elephant poaching. Pen pal exchanges are even organized between the children of Nice and the children of Abidjan, so they can discuss the situation in their respective countries.
