After Renaud Muselier’s departure from LR, is a new majority in the Regional Council possible?

Latest News

Here we go. 24 hours after Renaud Muselier’s departure from LR, maneuvers have begun to change the regional majority.

Thierry Mariani, the leader of the RN, proposes an alliance to the LR elected officials of the regional assembly. It is a “regional management contract” to ensure the Region “escapes Macronist domination.” He estimates that about thirty representatives belong to the “Trocadero” movement, the “hard right” dear to Eric Ciotti, a regional figure among the five candidates in the Republican primary: “we are ready to form a majority with them!” he declared.

The key to this agreement, an LR-RN “regional management contract.” Thierry Mariani even outlines the collaboration he envisions between the dissatisfied LR members and his party: no fusion, but rather “a regional management contract, in which each side would maintain its freedom of speech and action at the national policy level.”

Thierry Mariani—himself a former UMP president—has done his calculations: “The group of RN, Popular Right, and independent elected officials includes 39 members. Only 23 courageous right and center elected officials would be needed for our Region to escape Macronist domination.”

The window is now open. After the designation of the LR candidate for the 2022 Presidential election, there could be visitors.
