Airbnb, the short-term accommodation rental platform between individuals, will distribute 13.5 million euros in tourist tax that it collected in 2017.
Among the main beneficiary municipalities are Nice (860,000 euros) and Marseille (790,000 euros).
Criticized and accused of unfair competition for many years by tourism professionals, Airbnb has implemented an automated collection of the tourist tax.
It started in 2015 with Paris and Chamonix to reach 50 municipalities in 2017. By spring 2018, this automated collection system is expected to cover 15,000 municipalities.
