All about the Christmas lights in Nice

11

On Friday, November 29, Nice kicked off the Christmas lights with a show at Place Masséna. The decorations will remain visible until January 6, 2025, dressing the city in a magical atmosphere.

Since 2010, Nice has been focusing on an ecological approach for its decorations. The light motifs exclusively use LED lamps, which are more energy-efficient. With this technology, the city has theoretically reduced its energy bill. Since 2018, the light structures have been manufactured using 3D printing with sugarcane-based materials. This allows for biodegradable and fully recyclable decorations.

This year, approximately 1,000 horizontal and vertical motifs have been deployed across all neighborhoods. These installations are complemented by 200 kilometers of garlands illuminating iconic trees, such as those on Rue Ségurane or in the Jardin d’Arménie. Along the Promenade des Anglais, 300 palm trees twinkle. Additionally, 52 seven-meter trees, up from 49 last year, adorn various locations throughout the city.

New Features and Key Locations

Cours Saleya and Rue Rossetti are receiving comprehensive lighting for the first time. Three new trees have been added at Place Garibaldi, Place du Pin, and Square Lentulo. A 12-meter tree, incredibly lifelike, stands proudly on the water mirror, sparkling brightly.

Place Masséna becomes a central hub with its illuminated façades and a laser show projected several times per hour. The children at Hôpital Lenval are not forgotten: a 8-meter luminous Santa Claus awaits them, accompanied by decorations inspired by their drawings. These creations are also visible at the Christmas village, in the windows of the NicEtoile shopping center, and at Gare du Sud.
