The dynamic and determined president of the Nice handicapped sports club made it a point of honor: His two “Olympic” champions deserved their celebration and they got it.
At the Sochi Paralympic Games, the snowboarders from Nice shone! Cécile Hernandez-Cervellon won the silver medal. Patrice Barattero secured a very respectable 16th place.
In a family atmosphere, with a neighborhood restaurant sidewalk serving as the red carpet, friends and members of ANICES wanted to thank the two athletes who represented their colors on the competition tracks.
Cécile Hernandez-Cervellon and Patrice Barattero received the City of Nice medal from the hands of mayor Christian Estrosi, who emphasized the important role they play: “Through their achievements, they contribute to giving better visibility to handicapped sports and to the place of people with disabilities.”
In Nice, adapted physical activities and handicapped sports have found the place they deserve thanks to a series of actions, including notably the creation of the “Sport and Disability” unit in 2011 within the City’s Sports Department and the establishment of the Municipal School of Adapted and Handicapped Sports for children and adolescents with mental or physical disabilities.
