Often simply referred to as “cartoon”, animation, enriched by a century of creation, research, experiments, and technological innovations, is nevertheless a distinct Art form in cinema.
It is the Espace Magnan that will allow you to see, or revisit, masterpieces of animated film from December 7 to 13.
Imagination, creativity, a multitude of expressions, techniques and tools… animation on celluloids, pencil, charcoal, pastel on paper, cut-out elements or 3D…
The 7th edition gives you, once again, an appointment with these talented, patient, and passionate authors/creators and some of their animated “wonders” with…
“Cosette and the Little Cobbler” and “Latvian Charlot”
by Arnold Burovs, the founding father of Latvian animation, who has perpetuated the tradition of puppet theater for over 40 years in his studios in Riga.

“The Tales of the Magic Clock”
by Ladislas Starewitch, a masterpiece of poetry, exuberance, and humor that reveals the inventive genius and dreamlike nature of one of the pioneers of animation, whose special effects prefigure those of today’s animation masters.

“The Three Monks and other stories”
a handmade work of a collective of Chinese directors, in animated ink wash, whose pictorial and philosophical roots go back more than 3000 years,
“The Little Penguin” a program of 6 short films by Guy Delisle, Samuel and Frédéric Guillaume, Pal Toth, Luis Briceno, Gisèle and Ernest Ansorge, and Nicolas Bellanger, showcasing some of the infinite resources of animation.

“Corpse Bride”
by Tim Burton and Mike Johnson in original version (subtitled in French), a baroque work, with a definitively contemporary style yet made using one of the oldest methods of animation, stop motion (frame by frame model animation).
