The highly anticipated derby resulted in a dull, flavorless, and goalless match. Nice-premiere was nonetheless present and delivers to you the corridor rumors circulating around the Louis II for the event.
Two-wheelers: A somewhat “special” movement was organized by a portion of the Nice supporters. Indeed, about two hundred two-wheelers (motorcycles, scooters, mopeds…) left from the city of Nice for the Louis II stadium on Saturday early afternoon. Some might recall that a few had covered the twenty kilometers on foot a few years ago. A nice and original initiative (one can imagine the atmosphere on the road…). The charm of derbies!
Banner: “One club, one identity, our pride.” The banner displayed by the Monaco supporters throughout the game was intended to be positive. Proof that they too are calling for unity, and wish for ASM to finally move forward. Nothing less was expected from them after a very turbulent week (banner against Didier Deschamps, his resignation, virulent reactions from some players, criticism towards Michel Postor…)
New coach: With Didier Deschamps gone, it’s Jeannot Petit who is temporarily filling the coaching position. But from the man himself, this assignment is only temporary. Three or four matches at most, until Michel Pastor decides on the successor’s name. “I might be able to announce the name of the next coach before the trip to Lille, but we should not be hasty, in the interest of the club.” Rumors are circulating around the rock, with Paul Le Guen, Guy Lacombe, or Ramon Diaz being the most plausible candidates. Unless the solution lies abroad, more precisely in Italy… To be continued.
Zero: AS Monaco have still not scored at home this season. After two losses (Auxerre and Rennes, 0-2) and two draws (Lens and Nice, 0-0), the situation is starting to become concerning and is leaving a stain, especially for a title contender… And the talk in the aisles of Louis II about recruitment, and the famous “world-class striker” who never came, is yet to end.
Invincibility: Since its return to the top flight in 2002, OGC Nice has remained unbeaten at the Louis II stadium. If we set aside the completely crazy match from last season (a 3-4 victory for the red and blacks, after being down 3-0), the derbies have often been dull matches, tense, with few goals, and many cards. Once again on Saturday, the mountain produced a mouse.
