“Ask for Angela”: a measure against street harassment

Since September 2020, the city of Nice has been working diligently to improve the safety of its public spaces.

According to a study conducted by the government, 8 out of 10 women are afraid to go out alone at night. Moreover, a large majority of women acknowledge having already felt unsafe on the street. The city of Nice has therefore joined the Angela plan, inspired by the British model “Ask for Angela,” in the presence of Anthony Borré, the first deputy in charge of Proximity, Security, Housing, and Urban Renewal.

A network of safe places

Throughout the national territory, the Angela plan aims to create a network of safe places to seek refuge if necessary. Bars, restaurants, hotels, and even supermarkets are joining this initiative. Partner establishments will be identified with a sticker on their front. In Nice, for the final phase of the project, the “Angela” initiative will be tested in a pilot area of the city: the city center. If you wish to join this network, you simply need to fill out a form on this website. Finally, training sessions for merchants on welcoming victims are obviously planned.
