Born in 1835, Violette Ailhaud died in 1925. “L’Homme Semence” is a narrative written in 1919.
For the second time in 70 years, her village has just lost all its men. In 1852, Violette Ailhaud was of marrying age when her village in the Lower Alps was suddenly deprived of all its men due to the repression following the republican uprising of December 1851.
Two years passed in total isolation. Among the women, an oath was made that if a man came, he would be their communal husband, so that life could continue in the womb of each. Violette Ailhaud spent her last years in the Alpes de Haute Provence. She died there in 1925. In her estate, there was an envelope that could not be opened by the notary before the summer of 1952. The instructions stated that its contents, a manuscript, should be entrusted to the eldest of Violette’s descendants, exclusively female, aged between 15 and 30. Yveline, 24 years old, came into possession of the text of this book in July 1952.
The original text was adapted for the stage by BASE ART COMPAGNIE.
The first performance took place on July 20, 2010, with Laure BRUNO in the role of Violette, Emmanuelle LE CARO on harp and vocals.
Directed and lit by: Paul BRUNO.
