The Nice Jazz Festival is partnering with the association “20,000 Lives” to promote the distribution of defibrillators. A concert will be held at the Théâtre de Verdure this Saturday, July 12th, at 7:30 PM.
From white coat to leather jacket. The band The Low Budget Men (name inspired by one of the Kinks’ albums), plays for a noble cause and raises funds to finance the purchase of defibrillators.
The guitarist, singer, and composer Claude Mariottini, accompanied by Stéphane Mirc on bass, Marc Piola Caselli on guitar, Eric Chabaud on drums, and vocalist Doreen Chanter offers original compositions drawing influences from English rock standards.
Since 2008, more than 10,000 spectators have supported The Low Budget Men in concerts (Vallauris, Golfe Juan, Nice, La Gaude). 70 defibrillators have already been donated to the department.
20,000 Lives: It is both the name of the association and a significant figure, as it is the number of lives that could be saved each year by Dr. Claude Mariottini’s project. The association was created in 2008, and its founding members started from this observation to determine the course of its action and objectives: the distribution of defibrillators, which are scarce and not very visible, and raising public awareness of emergency procedures. The association has already enabled the donation of 70 fully automated defibrillators, thus usable by anyone in the department, and has saved 15 lives.
The resuscitation rate of patients reaches 3% without an available defibrillator, but rises to 30% when rescuers have one available. The time limit is 4 minutes to save a patient after cardiac arrest, and mortality increases by 10% for every minute lost. The speed and information of the public are therefore crucial because lives can be saved, which is the challenge of the association.
The Low Budget Men will represent the association “20,000 Lives” during the closing night of the Nice Jazz Festival,
at the Théâtre de Verdure, on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 7:30 PM.
