Yesterday, Football Tennis resonated with charity in the enchanting setting of the CSL des Combes with the second edition of the grand tournament of the old OGC Nice players, which distributed nearly 3,500 euros to the Lenval Foundation.
It was 9:30 AM and the tennis courts at Combes, usually filled with athletes armed with their rackets and balls, were occupied by dozens of footballers, both men and women, warming up for their first match in a very friendly competition.
Numerous former OGC Nice players such as Kurbos, Mattio, Jallamion, Ascery, and Januzzi could be seen exchanging balls with players who had known them from the Ray stadium turf. The very young eagle, Hugo Lloris, was also present, joining in the foot and head games. The first matches were announced at the table, and the 18 teams were ready to face off under a sun that was beginning to cast its warmest rays.
Nice Première had entered a team composed of Vincent Trinquat, André Martinez, and your servant, and the first match ended in a beautiful victory with a score of 21 to 9. The second match was more challenging, and despite all our efforts, we were defeated by the team led by Gérard Buscher with a score of 21 to 14. Next, the round of 16.
The other matches continued to be played across the courts of the CSL, surprising the regulars who arrived, all amazed to see this new form of football played on a tennis court, 3 against 3.
The round of 16 took place just before the lunch break, and it was the end of the road for the NP team, which bowed out without disgrace (21-12) to the winners of this 2006 edition, the Aiglons 3 team, among others composed of Jallamion and Viano.
It was a very nice day that concluded with a friendly award ceremony and the drawing of a raffle with many superb prizes.
A big hats off to Gérard Buscher and Alain Watelet as well as to the entire team at www.anciensaiglons.com for their perfect organization and for this gesture that will allow the Lenval Foundation to bring some happiness to children who deserve it so much.
See you next year for the third edition of the Football Tennis of the former aiglons and for the Nice Première team to do better than this thirteenth place, which we are actually quite proud of, as the tennis and rugby players that we are.
