The Association of Mayors of France (AMF) seeks to draw the government’s attention to the consequences of budget cuts. Indeed, state allocations to local authorities are expected to decrease by 30% by 2017. Investments made by municipalities decreased by 4.3 billion euros in 2014, which is 12.4%. In this context of budgetary constraints, it is difficult for municipalities to emerge from debt.

The Association of Mayors of France (AMF) recently published a study on the debt of French municipalities.

The city of Levallois-Perret, located in the Hauts-de-Seine department, is the most indebted city in France. It is closely followed by Saint-Ouen in Seine-Saint-Denis, Aubagne in Bouches-du-Rhône, and Cannes in Alpes-Maritimes.

The cities with the highest debt are mostly located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and in the Île-de-France.

Levallois-Perret is the municipality with more than 20,000 inhabitants with the highest debt. It reaches over 9,000 euros per inhabitant.
