The Directors’ Fortnight is a parallel selection of the Cannes Festival that was created following the events of May 1968. This year marks its 54th edition. This selection begins with the screening of the film L’envol.

Adapted from the literary work Alye Parusa by Aleksandr Grin, the film tells the story of a girl named Juliette who lives with her father in the north of France. Her father, Raphaël, is a soldier who survived World War I. This young girl, passionate about singing and music, yearns for freedom and shares this passion with a young boy of her age named Jean. She even makes a pact with him.

Young Juliette later encounters a magician who reveals to her that she will one day leave her village. Juliette believes in the magician’s words until the end of the film. Combining drama, history, and romance, the audience has been charmed by this cinematographic production, which will undoubtedly attract much attention.

Among the notable actors in this film, we find Louis Garrel.
He plays the character of Jean alongside Juliette Jouan, who portrays Juliette, representing women’s emancipation in the interwar period.
