Under the impetus of the Princess of Monaco, and with the favorable reception of the Cagnes-sur-Mer racecourse, the Grand Galop Challenge hosted a one-mile race, the “Prix Princesse Charlène de Monaco – Charity Mile.” A charity race won by Ronan Thomas on Miracle des Aigles.
Sunshine, warmth, smiles, a large crowd, the first edition of the Charity Mile couldn’t have dreamed of a better start on the racing scene. Horse-association pairs are assigned, and enthusiasts are only waiting for one thing, the 3:15 PM race.
One by one, the racers enter the 1600-meter synthetic sand track. Opposite the grandstands of the racecourse, the race begins, and the group of horses immediately takes the inside rail. Among the best-placed is Miracle des Aigles, already. Ronan Thomas took the gamble of gaining an early advantage, and number 15 seems unbeatable in the final stretch. On the sidelines, friends and trainers clench their fists. A mix of tension and excitement runs through the crowd, and already, the horses are at the finish line. Photo finish obligatory, but the victory remains with Ronan Thomas by a short head ahead of Flag Fen, ridden by Lemaitre.
The award ceremony takes place with the presence of the princess who hands out the checks and trophies to the associations. All pairs were rewarded with at least €2000. Action Innocence, for its happy victory of the day, wins €10,000.
