Christian Estrosi received the UMP General Secretary and President of the General Council of Hauts-de-Seine, Patrick Devedjian, at the main town hall on Thursday, October 2.
The occasion was to present him with the medal of the city of Nice and to clarify the situation between the two UMP leaders. “We have never been mad at each other; we have known each other for 25 years. In 1985, we were modest delegates. It is a lasting friendship that binds us,” stated Christian Estrosi.
At the end of March, Mr. Estrosi had, however, judged that the UMP leadership was becoming excessive, “I am not one of those people who need to be given something to be happy; the UMP now resembles a Mexican army, without a real leader,” he had declared to the Journal du Dimanche. A few months later, he became the new deputy general secretary of the party.
Patrick Devedjian, concluding the episode, affirmed, “We have often agreed. Christian has his temperament, we work together.”
