Footnote by Joseph CEDAR Israel 2011

After Beaufort, a very harsh war film, Joseph Cedar focused on the rivalry between a father and son, both professors at a Talmudic university. Through this “family joust”, Joseph Cedar tells, in this biting and subtle comedy, how the most passionate emotions crystallize on the most trivial objects.
The film won the Best Screenplay award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

Between laughter and emotion, Paolo Virzì paints, in the style of 1960s Italian comedies, the portrait of a life’s journey in Italy from the 1970s to today.

The Mosque by Daoud Aoulad Syad

Between fiction and reality, the film tells the story of a movie set become a place of worship.
At the end of his previous film’s shoot, Waiting for Pasolini, the inhabitants of Zagora (Southern Morocco) dismantled the sets to reclaim their land except…the mosque, much to the dismay of Moha, the landowner, who can no longer cultivate the land…

“Faithful to the quality of his cinema, the director has delivered an excellent piece. A great vintage of the 2011 Moroccan cinema” Aïcha Akalay (Tel Quel)

The story of The Mosque is a contemporary fable. It has universal significance and shows, through the small lens of cinema, the drama of a society entangled in religious dogmas, the abusive use of power, and social hypocrisy.
Thanks to his first profession, photography, Daoud Oulad Sayed offers settings of great beauty. After Farewell Forain, Wind Horse, Tarfaya, Waiting for Pasolini, he cements his place as a filmmaker to be reckoned with.
