The commemoration took place at Place du Général de Gaulle in Nice, under the statue and a stone’s throw from the Gare du Sud. It gathered some locals and onlookers who came to witness the ceremony.
The raising of the flag, the reading of the appeal of June 18, 1940, and the singing of the Marseillaise were all part of the proceedings.
The commemoration brought together various actors from the Azurean area, such as: Bernard Gonzalez, Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes; Philippe Pradal, First Deputy Mayor of Nice; Lieutenant-Colonel Philippe Bocquet, Departmental Military Delegate of the Alpes-Maritimes; Oliver Robaut, Municipal Councillor delegated for veterans; Colonel Marie-Christine Fix, Departmental Delegate of the Alpes-Maritimes from the Foundation of Free France; Jean-Marie Ghibaudo, President of the Friends of the Foundation of Free France in the Alpes-Maritimes; and all the associations of former combatants and war victims.
The representatives concluded by laying wreaths and saluting the troops.
Patrick Allemand, leader of the opposition “Another Future for Nice,” and Gaël Nofri, municipal councillor for the city of Nice, also attended the anniversary of General de Gaulle’s appeal.
