Preserving one’s health and thwarting the factors that promote cancer, Professor Maurice Schneider, President of the Alpes-Maritimes Committee of the League Against Cancer, will hold a conference on the theme of “Eating Better to Stay Healthy,” on Friday, June 15, 2012, at 6:30 PM at the Maison de l’Environnement in the City of Nice.
Nutrition, which includes diet and physical activity, is a major issue in cancer prevention. Several risk factors or, conversely, protective factors have been identified in recent years. It has been shown that a varied and balanced diet, limiting the consumption of alcoholic beverages, and associated with physical activity, can reduce the number of new cancer cases.
The 2009-2013 Cancer Plan emphasizes the importance of this issue in its measure 11, which calls to “promote prevention actions concerning the links between diet, physical activity, and cancers.”
Nutrition is a key factor in improving the general health of the population. Nutritional factors are indeed linked not only to cancer but also to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, and others.
The third National Nutrition Health Plan (PNNS) 2011-2015, which is closely aligned with the Cancer Plan and the Obesity Plan 2010-2013, aims to raise awareness among the population and professionals about the importance of nutrition-related issues.
