The construction work for tram line 4 has started in Saint-Laurent-du-Var with the demolition of a building and road adjustments. This line will connect Nice to Cagnes-sur-Mer and offer an alternative to cars.
The construction of the future tram line 4 began the week of March 10, following the commitments of Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. Two construction sites are underway: the demolition of a building south of the Saint-Laurent-du-Var train station and road adjustments.
The first phase of the work involves the demolition of a block located south of the train station. This area will accommodate a temporary parking lot with about a hundred spaces. Later on, a park-and-ride with 285 spaces will be installed there.
Meanwhile, road modifications are in progress. A new intersection with a pedestrian crossing is planned on Avenue Cyrnos. The slip road connecting Avenue Frédéric Mistral (RM 6098) to the southern block of the station will become two-way. The maximum speed on the RM 6098 will be reduced from 70 to 50 km/h. Finally, the pedestrian footbridge will be replaced with a ground-level crossing. For now, the RM6098 slip road is temporarily closed until March 14. The work will take place from 8 AM to 5 PM.
Line 4 will connect the Grand Arénas district in Nice to the Renoir and Escoffier high schools in Cagnes-sur-Mer, passing through Saint-Laurent-du-Var. It aims to provide an alternative to cars to facilitate travel in the western part of the metropolis. Work will continue in phases over the coming months.
