Cosmetic surgery is no longer reserved for Hollywood stars, and certainly not just for women. The practice has become common and now includes men.
Undergoing liposuction to remove love handles, treating baldness, removing eye bags, or even penis enlargement; men are not spared from the dictates of beauty. The stronger sex increasingly cares about their image, and surgical interventions are on the rise: out of every ten people entering a cosmetic surgery clinic, two are men.
Dr. Léopold Montes, a surgeon at the Mozart Clinic in Nice, confirms this trend: “In our clinic, the number of operations on men increases each year. Today, they make up 10% of our clientele.”
The top three most requested surgeries are blepharoplasty (removal of under-eye bags), followed by the now famous and very fashionable facelift, and liposuction. Treating baldness with grafts is also common.
The motivations of men are primarily based on appearance, which remains an important social factor. In politics, for example, Reagan, Mitterrand, or Berlusconi have resorted to cosmetic surgery. They understood the importance of appearance and its influence on voters in these cases. Dr. Montes confirms the trend: “Competition with other men is tough, and most of my clients undergo surgery to look younger.”
But beauty comes at a price. Expect to pay between 2,000 and 8,000 euros depending on the procedure, a considerable investment for some clients.
The risks of cosmetic surgery for men are the same as for women. No surgeon is immune to making a mistake, but problems remain rare.
After the surgery, there is only one constraint: it is painful initially; but must one not suffer to be beautiful?
