Vincent Trinquat: What do you think about the French team’s qualification for the World Cup? What will their chances be in Germany? What do you think of Raymond Domenech?

Virginie Rossetti: It’s a very good thing for the image of French football worldwide. Participating in a third consecutive World Cup means that France is truly among the essentials, and even though it was a struggle, history has already shown us that results in the qualifying rounds do not predict performance in the final stages.

We cannot yet assess the real chances in Germany because that would be based on recent results and the difficult qualification; however, a good start in the competition might just make everything click, and we could have an amazing run, so let’s wait and see.
Raymond Domenech shares similarities with Aimé Jacquet, heavily criticized and maybe praised tomorrow… so at the risk of having to change my opinion tomorrow, I won’t comment…

VT: In every reality TV show, people from the Azure coast are selected. Do you have an explanation? Jenifer, from Nice, has become a star thanks to Star Academy; do you think she positively spreads the image of Nice?

VR: Although, on principle, I don’t find it positive that Nice is represented principally by these kinds of personalities, I must admit that most people from outside see us this way, a mix of superficiality and pretense… (but all these people still save up every end of the month to join our beaches each summer… so let them envy us J) More seriously, the Côte d’Azur evokes a dream for many, hence, it is often associated with popular trends like reality TV.

VT: 2005 was a dreadful year concerning natural disasters: the Tsunami (December 2004), the hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Stan, and the earthquake in Kashmir. Do you fear that we will witness more and more such disasters? Do you think the Côte d’Azur is safe? How can the solidarity of France and the French towards the devastated regions be expressed?

VR: I think we just have to live with it trying not to think about it; the same way I do when I board a plane… Neither the Côte d’Azur nor any other place in the world is safe, so I’ve chosen to be fatalistic!
By being as present as possible in terms of humanitarian aid… the basic definition of solidarity.
