It had been more than a year since the Nice-based rider Clément Champoussin had last raised his arms in victory at a professional race. In Tuscany, the climber claimed his third career victory.
Engaged as a top-tier teammate for the Arkéa – B&B Hotels team, Clément Champoussin seized his opportunity. Well-sheltered in the peloton for the first 160 kilometers of the race, the Niçois took advantage of a lull at the start of the final descent to try his luck. Accompanied by the Australian Michael Storer during the day’s last climb, the two men caught up with the breakaway group. On the descent, the duo pulled ahead and managed to hold off the peloton’s return in the last 15 kilometers. At Pontedera, the stage of the Tour of Tuscany’s finish, Clément Champoussin took the initiative 200 meters from the line. The Frenchman proved to be faster in the sprint, securing one of his most impressive victories.
His last win dated back to the 2023 Tour of Norway. Last month, Clément Champoussin shone once again in the same race by finishing second in the overall standings, a position he also achieved at the Getxo circuit.
