Annual inflation in the OECD area was 2.3% in September 2017, up from 2.2% in August. Regarding France, it was 1.0% (0.9% in August).
Energy prices increased by 7.7% year-on-year in September 2017, after 5.9% in August. In contrast, food prices rose only slightly in September (1.9% year-on-year after 1.8% in August). Excluding food and energy, annual inflation remained stable at 1.8% for the fifth consecutive month.
Annual inflation increased in the United States (2.2% in September after 1.9% in August) and Canada (1.6% after 1.4%), and more modestly in France (1.0% after 0.9%) and the United Kingdom (3.0% after 2.9%). It remained stable in Japan (0.7%) and Germany (1.8%) and slightly decreased in Italy (1.1% after 1.2%).
In the euro area, the annual inflation measured by the HICP remained stable at 1.5% in September. The flash estimate published by Eurostat for October 2017 shows a slight decrease in annual inflation (to 1.4%).
Annual inflation in the G20 countries increased to 2.4% in September from 2.3% in August.
