The reaction of the Socialist Party is a necessary act. Without wanting to give too much importance to an initiative that is not political but should rather be attributed to the stupidity of behaviors exceeding the intentions of their authors. That said, it is evident that people like Gilbert Garelli have no place in politics in the noble and virtuous sense of the term. When one holds public positions, one is obligated to distinguish serious matters from “jokes.”
Following the insulting email regarding Muslims and Socialists sent by UMP municipal councilor of La Colle sur Loup, Gilbert GARELLI, the Socialist Party of Alpes-Maritimes wishes to express its indignation.
“Under the guise of humor, this type of racist and defamatory messages proliferates on the internet, and that an elected official circulates such ignominies is particularly shocking and concerning. Mr. Garelli is not worthy to be an elected representative of the Republic. We demand that both he and the institutions of his party draw the necessary conclusions,” announced Xavier Garcia, spokesperson of the Socialist Party Federation 06.
The elected representative has just been suspended from his duties, and a request for exclusion has been submitted to the UMP by Christian Estrosi, deeming this type of behavior intolerable, assuring that it will not go unpunished.
