FACE06 opposes the “Immigration” Bill.

Latest News

After the adoption on Tuesday December 19 of the so-called “Immigration Law” bill, the Maralpine federation fears a tightening of foreign students’ access to universities.

In fact, the Parliament promises a general increase in tuition fees for non-EU students with no possibility of exemption and the introduction of a “return deposit” for the issuance of student residence permits. The residence permits will also be challenged. A project far too stigmatizing for the Federation of Student Associations and Corporations of Alpes-Maritimes, which made its views known via a statement published the day before:

FACE06 is a federation by the students, for the students, whoever they may be. It is therefore natural for our federation to deplore today a project that is far too stigmatizing, in the image of these measures. A project that, we fear, will only exacerbate the social isolation and precariousness that affect students, and set us back in our fight against these issues.

A reassuring commitment

With increasing back-to-school costs and inflation that spares no students, the measures proposed by FACE06 to make university education less harsh are striking a chord. Last month, during the university elections, the federation reiterated its desire to uphold the rights of all students, dedicating an entire section of its program to non-EU students to encourage their inclusion and consideration at the same level as other students:

We promised to oppose the increase in their tuition fees, to fight against their isolation, and to help with their integration. In light of current events, this commitment is of crucial importance today. Such measures threaten to further marginalize an already particularly vulnerable population and place many in the difficult position of having to choose between acceptable living conditions and continuing their studies.
