The devastating fire in the Var has particularly affected the region and France. Support and donations are needed to attempt to change the situation. In response to this tragedy, a company from the Var has mobilized.
The CMA CGM Group, one of the world leaders in maritime transport and logistics, has mobilized to respond to the environmental emergency following the recent fires in the Var. The group, based in Marseille, felt directly concerned by this disaster and has made a donation of one million euros towards the restoration of the natural spaces in the affected areas of the Maures plain.
This donation will be distributed through the regional fund RESPIR. Created in April 2021 at the initiative of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, it brings together forest landowners and public/private funders in the framework of preserving regional forest spaces.
Thanks to this one million euro donation, a comprehensive plan for the restoration of the environment and biodiversity can be implemented. It will be carried out in three distinct phases:
– Conducting a post-fire diagnostic study: aimed at precisely assessing the damage caused by the fire
– Soil safety and habitat improvements for wildlife
– Replanting the reduced areas
Renaud Muselier, president of the regional council of the PACA Region, expressed his thoughts on this act of solidarity: “Today, I commend the CMA CGM Group, a global leader in logistics and transport deeply rooted in our region, for its donation of 1 million euros to our RESPIR Fund! This solidarity will enable the safety of soils and restoration of the burned areas in the Var, along with funding for a comprehensive plan for environmental and biodiversity restoration, developed in partnership with the National Forests Office (ONF).”
