For the second consecutive year, Francesco Smalto invites you to the foot of the Palais des Festivals to celebrate the Seventh Art under the banner of elegance. The House, with its strong connections to cinema (over 100 collaborations in 50 years) and the crowning moment of director Abdellatif Kechiche receiving the Palme d’Or in 2013 in a Francesco Smalto tuxedo, will host the most prestigious guests throughout the festival at 3, Boulevard de la Croisette.
Once again this year, Francesco Smalto will establish himself as the tailor of the Seventh Art, by designing the costumes for Tim Roth in “Grace of Monaco” by Olivier Dahan, a film that will open the 67th Cannes Film Festival.
For this new edition, the Francesco Smalto boutique becomes the antechamber of the Seventh Art, where selected guests can relax and enjoy a privileged view of the most coveted steps in the world.
They will be welcomed in an entirely “black & gold” setting. The gold refers, of course, to the Palme d’Or, but also to Francesco Smalto himself, for whom this metal is also synonymous with timeless, assured, and unassailable elegance. This unique setting, created in partnership with the Manufacture Henryot & Cie, reimagines contemporary design furniture in a “black & gold” version. Unique pieces gilded in 24-carat fine gold have been custom-made and adorned with flannel or tennis stripes, thus recalling the spirit of tailoring. This manufacture, labeled “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” just like the Maison Francesco Smalto, also defends and perpetuates a unique French craftsmanship.
On the terrace, a sublime Piper Heidsieck champagne bar styled like a movie set reveals the “Rare” cuvée in the colors of the “Gold Edition” Observatory, while inside, custom cocktails are crafted by top mixologists.
For the occasion, a Francesco Smalto Collector’s “Gold Edition” box set has been specially imagined by Youn Chong Bak, creative director. It contains three exclusive bow ties as well as the carnation, the House’s signature, handcrafted in the workshops of Maison Legeron. These iconic accessories, revisited in “black & gold” for this festival, are already set to become the gentlemen’s badge of recognition on the Croisette.
For its “Gold Edition,” the Francesco Smalto Observatory has chosen to honor photographer Lisa Roze, who is creating a “tailor-made” exhibition throughout the festival with artists Thomas Dutronc, Matthieu Chedid, Jérémie Lippmann, and Mathieu Demy… in Francesco Smalto suits. The photographer works on her photos in a very artisanal manner and elevates her work to the level of a visual artist. A link between cinema, art, and the convictions that drive the iconic tailor of masculine elegance: precision of gesture, creativity, love for the craft, handmade excellence. The opening of the “Gold by Lisa Roze” exhibition will take place on May 15 at the Francesco Smalto Observatory.
