From June 24 to August 28, a reinforced security arrangement has been implemented due to a significant increase in tourist numbers in the city.
On Friday, July 22, the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, the Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) of the Alpes-Maritimes, and the First Deputy Delegate for Security, visited Nice’s tourist center to commend the national and municipal police crews as well as the CRS, who are deployed in the field to ensure everyone’s safety.
Presentation of the arrangement
The general security missions and compliance with municipal orders are carried out, as every summer, in the most crowded areas (public sale, street artists, shirtless individuals, smoke-free beaches, gatherings, begging, alcohol, environmental infractions). To ensure optimal coverage of the city, the arrangement covers key areas including the hyper center, specifically Vieux Nice/Garibaldi, the pedestrian zone, Masséna, Jean-Médecin, and the seafront. In total, 17 crews are deployed daily, comprising 50 officers who take turns from Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m.
There is also a nautical brigade for sea surveillance, an equestrian brigade mobilized during the day mainly along the seafront and downtown, and a canine unit supporting the night shifts.
Furthermore, the arrangement provides additional support for the Urban Supervision Center. The city is equipped with nearly 4,000 cameras with operational agents available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 240 emergency call stations, and 66 loudspeakers connected to the CSU to broadcast preventive messages.
