For this 11th day of the Ligue Magnus this Friday evening, the Eagles of Nice traveled to the Briançon ice rink. The people of Nice suffered a third consecutive defeat (6-4).
After two consecutive defeats, including one against Angers, last Tuesday at the Jean-Bouin ice rink in Nice (0-5), the Eagles wanted to bounce back. Frantisek Stolc’s men faced Briançon away this Friday evening. The Red Devils of Briançon are currently eighth in the regular season, just behind the Eagles of Nice, who are seventh in the championship.
Exciting start to the match
The match started strong for the people of Nice. In the first few seconds of play, the Eagles took the lead with a goal from Ondrej Kopta (0-1). The start of the match was clearly in favor of the people of Nice. The Red Devils could not get out of their camp. But five minutes later, Horvath equalized for Briançon (1-1). His shot left Nikita Bespalov with no chance.
Alexis Sutor allowed Nice to regain the lead midway through the first period (1-2). The people of Nice took the upper hand against their opponent of the evening. The Eagles extended their lead at the beginning of the second period. Mikael Kuronen gave the people of Nice a two-goal advantage (1-3). But the Red Devils didn’t give up, and even came back to tie before the end of the second period, thanks to two quick goals (3-3).
A decisive final period
Both teams started the third period strong, aiming to score a new goal and take the lead in the final moments of this game. A goal by Jani Kluuskeri put the Briançon team ahead for the first time in the match (4-3). Joonas Larinmaa equalized a few minutes later for Nice (4-4). The two teams remained neck and neck.
Briançon took the lead once again five minutes before the end of the match thanks to a goal by Benjamin Bérard (5-4). The Briançon team seemed to have done the hardest part towards the end of the match. In the final moments, Horvath sealed the fate of the match by scoring a second goal into the empty net (6-4). Briançon won against Nice. The people of Nice led for a long time but were defeated for the third time in a row in the championship. The Eagles were not solid enough in defense.
The next match is scheduled for next Friday, October 20th, for the Eaglets. The people of Nice will play in Angers as part of the 13th day of the Ligue Magnus. Kick-off is at the Angers IceParc at 8:30 PM.
